A 20 MW PV and energy storage project in Tibet delivering reliable off grid power to 14,000 residents.

  • 13 MW PV inverters and 7 MW storage inverters installed

  • Designed for high altitude and extreme subzero temperatures

  • Supplies clean electricity to over 14,000 people off grid

PV inverter manufacturer Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd. announced a solar photovoltaic (PV) & energy storage micro-grid power plant reflecting the microgrid energy storage revenue trends for the next decade, with 13 MW of PV inverters and 7 MW of energy storage inverters, was successfully installed in Shuanghu, China, the highest region in the world located in China’s Tibet province.

The 20 MW micro-grid power plant, aligning with emerging virtual power plant approaches, aims to provide electricity to over 14,000 people living in the vicinity, with average elevations reaching heights of over 5,000 meters.

Elsewhere, utility resilience efforts include SDG&E's wildfire-ready microgrid in Ramona that helps protect communities during peak fire season.

With temperatures often dipping below -5℃ and the lowest temperatures recorded at -40℃, Shuanghu County’s extreme climate has frequently posed challenges to smart solar inverters and other solar components, operating in the region’s frigid conditions.

Sungrow’s solar and energy storage inverters, together with the company‘s battery systems, are employed in this project.

“We are always dedicated to bringing green and effective energy to markets in need all around the world, especially for those who reside in areas with limited access to electricity,” said Professor Renxian Cao, President of Sungrow.
